Prof. Biswa Nath Chatterji

Prof. Biswa Nath Chatterji did his B.Sc. fromUniversity of Allahabad in 1961, B.Tech.(Hons) and PhD from IIT Kharagpur in 1965 and 1970 respectively and then Post-Doctoral 1972-1973 Univ. of Erlangen,Germany. His field of specialization is mainly Electronics and Electronics Communication Engineering with Specialization in Image Processing, Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition and Current Interest Based Image Retrieval, watermarking, 3 -D Image Processing, Neural Networks, Multimedia Image Processing, Speech Processing. He worked as Asst. Development Engineer in Telerad Pvt.Ltd. 1965, then as Senior Research Fellow in Central Electronics Engg. Research Inst. Pilani. 1965-1966 and joined IIT Kharagpur where he served as Assoc. Lecturer, Lecturer, Asst. Professor and Professor from 1967 to 2005. Presently he is Dean (Academic Affairs) as well as Professor in the Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engg in B.P. Poddar Institute of Management and Technology, Kolkata under WBUT(West Bengal University of Technology). He joined with me in this institute in 2005 when I was a part time lecturer and guided me into the field of Image Processing and introduced me to the field of Biometrics. He has a great deal of contribution for the success of the students(Sharmila Banerjee, Anirban Dutta, Mainul Abedin and Sankha Bhattacharya) doing B.Tech project under both of us, and without him these two papers would not have been a reality.

He is the first person to have introduced me to publications of research work as well as given exposure to research paper writing. He even quoted that there should not be any year in which I should not have a single research paper or article. this is because we have to have a continuity in research and any stoppages will lead to bluntness in my caliber.
